    Laserfiche: Efficiency inspired by Innovation

CIO VendorSean Tang, MD & VP of International Business
Enabling people and organizations to do more of the work that matters.” This is an ambitious statement in today's fast-moving, ever-changing market. The real question is how?

The team answering the question is Laserfiche, a company that empowers organizations through intuitive software for managing information and streamlining business operations. For more than 30 years, Laserfiche enterprise content management (ECM) has been assisting organizations across a range of sectors with user-friendly, flexible solutions that cater to industry-specific needs. Despite the technology's evolution over the past three decades, Laserfiche still holds onto its founding principles of developing solutions to enable people to work smarter.

    The Digital Transformation Model

Data is being created every second of the day and at a pace that organizations are struggling to cope with. Approximately 80 percent of enterprise data is unstructured; and organizations face challenges when it comes to leveraging it. Although technology can help, knowing where—or even how—to start poses a hurdle. Recognizing that organizations globally are at different phases of transforming into a digital environment, the Laserfiche Digital Transformation Model was created to help guide them, assisting organizations to identify where they are on their digital journey and how they can progress into being a more efficient workplace.

This clear, client-centric roadmap includes five phases every organization will ultimately take to reaching the status of a digital workplace include: digitize, organize, automate, streamline and transform.

Following this model, an organization moves through the phases from converting paper files into digital ones and storing them into an electronic filing cabinet for digital archiving and retrieval, to categorizing documents and managing information in a secure, central location. The next steps involve digitizing processes through electronic forms to improve accountability and gain visibility into operations while increasing efficiency of processes across the organization. In the final stage, Laserfiche emphasizes innovation, aligning processes with business goals by leveraging analytics.

Continuous innovation is Laserfiche’s primary driver, delivering real-world value for their customers

Laserfiche examined data from thousands of customers across all industries around the world to create this roadmap.

    Bringing Innovation into Play

Continuous innovation is Laserfiche’s primary driver, delivering real-world value for its customers. Recognizing and acknowledging the importance of the end-user experience and creating the technological advances to deliver greater usability are the key differentiating elements that set Laserfiche apart from amongst a host of other tech companies.

Laserfiche’s approach to ECM includes technologies that incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning. The company, leverages recent trends to drive innovation and transformation like robotic process automation (RPA) and predictive analytics.

“Our differentiating factor lies in the fact that we can help organizations, regardless of where they stand in their digital transformation journey and help them evolve and turn information into an asset that can benefit them in their operations,” says Sean Tang, Managing Director and Vice President of International Business.

    Leaving a Trail of Digitization

With a solution suite that can be tailored to an organization’s needs, Laserfiche has seen success in enabling companies globally through a strong network of value-added resellers, and the success stories of Laserfiche are not limited to their US-based headquarters.

The Power Sector Assets & Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) is located in the Philippines. PSALM was set up to undertake the privatization of the assets of the Philippines’ National Power Corporation (NPC) and the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) as well as the privatization of the management of NPC's IPP (Independent Power Producer) contracts.

Their challenge started when PSALM was handed 4 million paper files from the NPC. It quickly became evident that cataloguing and searching paper-based records was not viable. In looking for a cost-effective solution, the Technology Department at PSALM recognized Laserfiche’s feature-rich functionality as well as affordability that would assist them in their task. The Laserfiche ECM solution assisted PSALM in managing the mass of paper files and migrating it onto their platform.

“Laserfiche helps us put our records in order. We can easily retrieve documents showing our performance when auditors ask for them,” said Helen E.V. San Pedro, Department Manager, Information Systems at PSALM.

One primary reason for Laserfiche's successful run in the market is its culture of innovation. Laserfiche's team has a unique work culture--one that demands creativity and entrepreneurial thinking from junior-level employees on up. This, in turn, helps foster the spirit of innovation, which reflects the company's solutions and strategy. At its core, the company remains true to the words of its founder Nien-Ling Wacker, “…good software should be easy to use. Most Software is difficult to use, but I don’t believe it has to be difficult. We make software that people love to use.”
